TODAY we are celebrating National Tequila Day!
Tequila Day is a festivity devoted to the iconic Mexican spirit known as tequila. It takes place on July 24th every time and provides an occasion for tequila suckers worldwide to carouse in the rich history, culture, and artificer behind this famed alcoholic libation.
Tequila is a distilled alcoholic drink made from the blue agave factory( Agave tequilana Weber). Its origins can be traced back to the city of Tequila in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The Aztecs were the first to raise agave to produce a libation known as” pulque,” which served as a conventional drink. The Spanish latterly introduced the process of distillation to produce what we now know as tequila. ** Distinctive Characteristics
To be classified as tequila, the spirit must meet specific criteria outlined by Mexican law. It must be made from blue agave grown in specific regions of Mexico, including Jalisco and certain corridors of Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas. Tequila is known for its unique flavor profile, which can range from sweet and herbal to hoarse and fiery, depending on the aging process and the type of tequila.
There are some types of tequila with different aging processes and flavor characteristics.
- Blanco (tableware) – A pure and clear appearance, with the agave flavor front and center
- Añejo( Extra progressed) – Progressed for at least one time, giving in a rich, amber tinge and deep, nuanced flavors evocative of caramel and spice.
- Extra Añejo – Was introduced in 2006, and processed a minimum of three times. Extra Añejo tequilas parade a meliorated, elegant character, akin to aged spirits like fine whiskies or cognacs.
People around the world celebrate Tequila Day by raising their glasses in honor of this cherished spirit.
