National Kale Day!

Today, we celebrate a superfood, the Kale.  A vegetable that became popular in the diet world especially to those who are vegetarian or vegan, or even to those who love a healthy green smoothie and that includes me because it is one of my favorite vegetables, even my dog loves them.  This day is observed annually on October 3rd.

If you don’t love Kale, you are missing a lot because Kale is pack with nutrients that is why it belongs to the superfood group.  Who would imagine there would be a Kale Day, a type of vegetable who was once unknown in the world of veggie eaters until the fad of juicing.  When juicing fad started, the unknown vegetable, Kale, became the star of the show aside from Spinach.

If you’re on a diet or want to start dieting and start juicing, Kale is the number one green in the mix, to make a green juice.  It is very high in nutrient and vitamins, which is good for the body, especially if your skipping some foods in your diet and needed more boost on vitamins.

Since Kale became popular, a variety of recipes came out using Kale.  Aside from juicing, comes the Kale salad with Walnuts and Strawberry, Kale Slaw, Kale Chip, Kale Chocolate Fudge Pop, yes you heard me, search it on the internet and you will find a recipe for that, also its one way of hiding a very high nutrient vegetable that your kids will eat.

Kale is a tough leafy vegetable that’s why some people don’t like it, but if you prepare it the right way, you will fall in love with it.  It’s funny when I tell people you have to massage the leaf after chopping it with Olive Oil and salt to make it more pliable and not hard to chew before serving it with your favorite toppings and extra dressing.

So, today, celebrate this day by preparing some green smoothie using Kale or have a Kale salad.  My favorite salad is made of grilled chicken with some strawberry slices on Kale top with some slaw dressing, it is delicious.  I also enjoy a morning shot of green smoothie with lemon in the morning.  Share on social media if you like Kale too and show some photos of how you use and prepare Kale using #KaleDay.

1992 Sinéad O’Connor tears up a photo of Pope John Paul II on “Saturday Night Live”

On October 3, 1992, Irish musician Sinéad O’Connor stuns the audience at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and viewers across the United States when she tears up a photo of Pope John Paul II during a performance on Saturday Night Live.

O’Connor surprised the SNL staff when she opted to sing an acapella version of the Bob Marley song “War” instead of a song from her recent album. She gave a stark, intense performance of the song, which decries “ignoble and unhappy regimes” that hold people in “sub-human bondage,” changing some of the lyrics to specifically mention child abuse. At the conclusion, O’Connor held a picture of the pope to the camera and tore it to pieces, saying “Fight the real enemy.”

The audience was silent throughout the performance, but NBC reported hearing from nearly a thousand angry callers over the next few days—as well as seven who called to support O’Connor. Madonna, something of a musical rival to O’Connor at the time, criticized her performance, telling The Irish Times: “I think there is a better way to present her ideas rather than ripping up an image that means a lot to other people.” The next week’s SNL guest, Joe Pesci, devoted his opening monologue to condemning O’Connor. Two weeks later, at a Bob Dylan tribute concert in Madison Square Garden, O’Connor was shouted off stage.
