TODAY we celebrate the all-American classic that satisfies every hungry palate: It’s National Hot Dog Day!
This American favorite has captured the hearts and palates of the young and old, worldwide! It remains an icon, a beloved treat that brings people together, from ballparks to backyard barbecues.
Hot dogs trace their origins back to the late 19th century when German immigrants brought sausages, known as “Frankfurters”. Nowadays, hot dogs are served in rolls, popular in baseball games with the name “hot dogs”, and became part of the American culture.
I always love the classic hot dog: steamed or grilled and typically made of beef. Hot dogs are sometimes made of beef and pork, served in a soft warm bun, and topped with mustard, my favorite condiment! Others like to add other ingredients like ketchup, relish, onions, sauerkraut, and cheese, but I love plain mustard.
One of the famous hot dog places is Coney Island, New York. They use Nathan’s beef hot dogs, topped with chili and onions. But you can always enjoy hot dogs in your backyard, grilled, boiled, pan-fried, or cooked outdoors. The possibilities are endless.
Hot dogs are not just a plain snack or portion of food; they represent a shared experience, and a connection to our cultural roots, which is a symbol of togetherness. Hot dogs will always remain a beloved classic to all ages, irrespective of whether they are plain and simple or overflowing with toppings. Let us celebrate this day by enjoying a delicious hot dog, savoring its flavors, and remembering this timeless delight!
