Today we celebrate our favorite Talk Show Host to pay tribute and appreciate their unique personality bringing us humor and entertainment. This day is observed annually on October 23rd.
Who is your favorite talk show host? There are different platforms for every talk show host. It can be humor, politics, or a combination of current events in today’s entertainment and politics. One of my all-time favorite talk show hosts is Craig Ferguson who delivers humor with his buddy Geoff Peterson, an animatronic human skeleton that served as his sidekick on the late-night talk show The Late Late Show.
This day is celebrated commemorating Johnny Carson’s birthday, who was known as “The King of Late Night,” on NBC’s The Tonight Show in 1962 after taking over the first talk show host, Steve Allen. Today, the show is hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
Every day we watch our favorite talk show, whether daytime or nighttime, and we love watching them because we laugh, cry, listen and learn with all the current events, or controversial issues going on day to day life, especially in political views. Nowadays, you can also find your favorite talk show host on one of your favorite game show like Steve Harvey, who hosts his afternoon talk show and at the same time host Family Feud game show for the family in the evening.
Syndicated daily talk shows began to gain more popularity during the mid-1970s and reached their height of popularity with the rise of the tabloid talk show. Morning talk shows gradually replaced earlier forms of programming — there were a plethora of morning game shows during the 1960s and early to mid-1970s, and some stations formerly showed a morning movie in the time slot that many talks shows now occupy.

1989 Gas leak kills 23 at the plastics factory
On October 23, 1989, 23 people die in a series of explosions sparked by an ethylene leak at a factory in Pasadena, Texas. The blasts, which took place at a Phillips Petroleum Company plant, were caused by inadequate safety procedures.
A polyethylene reactor at the Phillips 66 Chemical Complex in Pasadena created chemical compounds necessary for the production of plastics. The plant produced millions of pounds of plastics daily for use in toys and containers.
In an effort to cut costs, Phillips subcontracted much of the necessary maintenance work in the plant. Fish Engineering and Construction, the primary subcontractor, did not enjoy a stellar reputation even prior to the October 23 disaster. In August, a Fish employee opened gas piping for maintenance without isolating the line. This caused flammable solvents and gas to be sent into a work area where they ignited, killing one worker and injuring four others.
