Australia Flag Day:

On 28 August 1996, The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Sir William Deane, acting on the advice of the Federal Executive Council, declared that 3 September in each year would be observed as “Australian National Flag Day” throughout Australia and in the external Territories of Australia.

Whilst Australian National Flag Day will not be a public holiday, it will be a day “to commemorate the day in 1901 when Australia’s National Flag was first flown.

San Marino Day:

On 3 September, the tiny state of San Marino celebrates its patron saint and the anniversary of the foundation of the Republic.

In the year 301, San Marino was founded by a Christian stonemason, Marinus. Marinus fled the island of Arbe off the Dalmation coast to escape the anti-Christian persecution of the Roman Empire. Marinus founded a small community of Christians on Mount Titano. The area was named the Land of San Marino, in memory of Marinus. Later it was named the Community of San Marino. Finally, it was formally known as the Republic of San Marino. Despite frequent invasions by the rulers of Rimini, the state of San Marino maintained its independence. Pope Nicholas IV recognized San Marino’s independence In 1291.

Mechanic Appreciation Day:

A mechanic is a person who uses tools to repair things (generally machinery) or works to keep things operating properly.

Many mechanics are specialized in a particular field such as auto mechanics, bicycle mechanics, boiler mechanics, industrial maintenance mechanics (millwrights), air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics, aircraft mechanics, diesel mechanics and tank mechanics in… the armed services. Auto mechanic, for example, has many trades within. Some may specialize in the electrical aspect, other areas include: brakes and steering, automatic or standard transmission, engine repairs or diagnosing customer complaints. An auto technician has a wide variety of topics to study.

Shaun Roger White (born September 3, 1986 in Carlsbad, California) has been a notable competitor in professional snowboarding since he was 13 years old, but is also known for his skateboarding. He was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect for which he endured two open-heart operations; One operation at six months, and the second at 12 months.

Celebrity Death Anniversary:

• Vincent Thomas Lombardi (June 11, 1913 – September 3, 1970) was an American football coach. He was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League from 1959-67, winning five league championships during his nine years. Following a one-year retirement from coaching in 1968, he returned as head coach of the Washington Redskins for the 1969 season.

Lombardi’s record in the post-season was 9–1, the loss coming in the first of those games, the 1960 NFL Championship Game.
