November 21, 2009 is the 37th annual World Hello Day. Anyone can participate in World Hello Day simply by greeting ten people. This demonstrates the importance of personal communication for preserving peace.
World Hello Day was begun in response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel in the Fall of 1973. Since then, World Hello Day has been observed by people in 180 countries.
People around the world use the occasion of World Hello Day as an opportunity to express their concern for world peace. Beginning with a simple greeting on World Hello Day, their activities send a message to leaders, encouraging them to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts.

HandsOn Network logo. A signature program of Hands On Network and presented by the Walt Disney Company, Family Volunteer Day, is designed to demonstrate the power of families who volunteer together to support the communities in which they live and work. Volunteering as a family provides quality time for busy families, strengthens communication, and promotes working together to impact local communities across the nation.
A prelude to National Family Week, Family Volunteer Day is celebrated on Saturday, November 22, 2008. This day of service is a powerful way for families who volunteer to support the communities in which they live.
What is family volunteering? Family volunteering can be as simple as drawing cards for children in the hospital or as complex as linking hundreds of families in a day of volunteer service. It can be done by the whole family, by one parent and a child or teen, by siblings, or extended family members.
A number of resources exist for families and volunteer organizations to use when developing and planning projects for this day of service — or any day.

On Saturday, November 21, 2009, over 230 simultaneous conferences for survivors of suicide loss will take place throughout the U.S. and internationally. This unique network of healing conferences helps survivors connect with others who have survived the tragedy of suicide loss, and express and understand the powerful emotions they experience.
Each conference site is organized locally, but they’re all connected in spirit as participants across the globe watch a special 90-minute AFSP broadcast together on that day. In the U.S., conference sites will show the broadcast together from 1-2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and international sites will show it from 1-2:30 p.m. local time. Many conference sites plan their own local programs around the broadcast, including panels and breakout groups, all aimed at helping survivors heal.

The United Nations’ (UN) World Television Day is annually observed in many places around the world on November 21. The day recognizes that television plays a major role in presenting different issue that affect people.
The UN acknowledges that television can be used to educate many people about the world, its issues and real stories that happen on the planet. Television is one of the most influential forms of media for communication and information dissemination. It is used to broadcast freedom of expressions and to increase cultural diversity. The UN realized that television played a major role in presenting global issues affecting people and this needed to be addressed.
On December 17, 1996, UN General Assembly proclaimed November 21 as World Television Day to commemorate the date on which the first World Television Forum was held earlier that year. The UN invited all member states to observe the day by encouraging global exchanges of television programs focusing, among other things, on issues such as peace, security, economic and social development and cultural change enhancements.
North Carolina Statehood Day:

On November 21, 1789, North Carolina became the twelfth state to ratify the Constitution. In 1840, it completed the state capitol building in Raleigh, still standing today. Most of North Carolina’s slave owners and large plantations were located in the eastern portion of the state. Although North Carolina’s plantation system was smaller and less cohesive than those of Virginia, Georgia or South Carolina, there were significant numbers of planters concentrated in the counties around the port cities of Wilmington and Edenton, as well as suburban planters around the cities of Raleigh, Charlotte and Durham. Planters owning large estates wielded significant political and socio-economic power in antebellum North Carolina, often to the derision of the generally non-slave holding “yeoman” farmers of Western North Carolina. In mid-century, the state’s rural and commercial areas were connected by the construction of a 129–mile (208 km) wooden plank road, known as a “farmer’s railroad,” from Fayetteville in the east to Bethania (northwest of Winston-Salem).
